SUMMARY:An Evening with Chris Herren: Roads to Recovery's 2025 National Recovery Month Event
DESCRIPTION:"What I've learned speaking publicly is that there's strength in struggle and people need to hear it. They need to hear how dark it gets and how great being sober can be. The stigma around addiction cuts so deep that once you're labeled a heroin addict\, there's no place to go and that's the furthest thing from the truth."\n\nWe're changing the conversation on addiction and recovery. This event is a celebration of National Recovery Month with special guest Chris Herren\, former NBA star and national addiction recovery advocate. Chris's compelling story shows that addiction can happen to anyone\, and recovery is possible for everyone!\n\nIn this very personal presentation\, Chris will share his recovery story. He was a high school basketball star in Fall River\, Massachusetts but battled with drug and alcohol addiction from the time he was a teenager. He went on to play college basketball at California State University\, Fresno and Boston College. From there\, he joined the NBA and played for the Denver Nuggets and his home team\, the Boston Celtics. It seemed he was living out his dream\, but behind closed doors\, Chris's addiction controlled his life. In recovery since August 1\, 2008\, Chris shares his personal struggle with substance use disorder for 14 years\, and his recovery journey from addiction to sobriety.\n\nJoin Roads to Recovery for this inspirational evening. Meet Chris before the presentation\, enjoy delicious hors d'oeuvres catered by Avenue Foods\, and be inspired by Chris's story and recovery stories in our own community!
