At Business @ Breakfast you'll also meet new members and build business relationships.\n\n\n\nThis Business @ Breakfast we welcome special guest: Lisa Coons\, Superintendent of Public Instruction\, Virginia Department of Education as she speaks on "Public Education in the Commonwealth: Issues\, Opportunities and the Role of Business in our Schools".\n\n\n\nThe Alliance has had a longstanding partnership with our area K-12 schools as well as early childhood education. And\, our new regional workforce roadmap outlines key strategies to strengthen career pathways in our in-demand industries and increase engagement with our schools.\n\n\n\nCome to the November Business @ Breakfast to hear from Superintendent Coons on what the state is doing to strengthen our schools and ways the business community can better engage and equip the next generation of workers.\n\n \n\n\nAbout our Speaker\n\nLisa Coons served in multiple leadership roles in K-12 education before being appointed Virginia superintendent of public instruction. She most recently served as chief academic officer for the Tennessee Department of Education\, where she led all birth to grade-12 academic programming\, including K-12 teaching and learning in language arts\, mathematics\, science\, and fine arts\; early childhood education\; voluntary pre-K and Head Start.\n\n\n\nCoons also worked as an executive officer of division priority schools for Metro Nashville Public Schools\, executive director of instructional leadership at the Tennessee Department of Education and middle school supervisor in Sumner County\, Tennessee. She holds a doctorate in education from Lipscomb University.
