SUMMARY:Girls on the Run of Central Virginia presents SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age\, a Documentary
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to present SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age\, a documentary about one of the biggest parenting issues of our time. Are you watching kids scroll through life\, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids and began a quest to uncover how it might affect their development. As with her other two award-winning documentaries on mental health\, Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life\, including her own\, to explore struggles over social media\, video games\, academics and internet addiction.\n\nThrough poignant and unexpectedly funny stories\, along with surprising insights from authors\, psychologists\, and brain scientists\, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time influences kids' development and offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.\n\nSCREENAGERS addresses this pervasive parenting issue head on depicting teen struggles over social media\, video games and internet addiction. The film empowers kids to best navigate the digital world and provides practical resources to help them do it.\n\nThis 1 hour\, 6 minute film will be followed by an optional discussion\, moderated by Trish McCoy-Kessler\, LPC of Empower Counseling. \n\n\n\nAppropriate for adults and kid 10 and older (however\, many parents bring kids younger than 10 and are happy they did.)\n\n\n\nTickets are just $5 and proceeds will help empower young girls in our area by covering fees so they participate in the Girls on the Run / Heart & Sole programs.\n\nWatch the Trailer here: https://vimeo.com/145826333 \n\nPurchase tickets here: https://impactflow.com/event/2046/checkout/tickets
