Job Description

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Chef responsible for leading all production and preparation of daily meals and special functions at the Virginia Episcopal School, a private college preparatory school located the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains. This is a 9-10 month position with strong potential for summer work.

What you will do:

  • Direct cooks and other production team members in the quality and timeliness of food production, using batch-cooking methods to maintain quality and freshness of the product.

  • Participate in menu development, purchasing, and production, incorporating the latest trends and practices

  • Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.

  • Use traditional, made from scratch preparation methods and keep accurate production logs.

  • Work collaboratively alongside other production staff to incorporate key ingredients/products into recipe and menu offerings on a daily basis.

  • Lead by example; engaging and developing direct reports and team members through ongoing support/training, monitoring, coaching, and feedback.

  • Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships while researching price variations.

  • Implement and maintain HACCP standards

  • Assist in maintaining food quality and performing tasks quickly and efficiently.


What you need:

  • Associate Degree in Culinary Arts required

  • 5+ years Kitchen Management experience preferred

  • Strong production skills with experience with high volume foodservice operations, high-end catering management, and fine dining environments preferred

  • Application and promotion of current food trends

  • Proficiency and growing knowledge of sustainable practices

  • Participative management style and excellent leadership skills

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Passion for reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices

  • ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification preferred

  • Reliable and predictable attendance
