Lynchburg Mayor Treney Tweedy will be Central Virginia Community College's commencement speaker May 15.

Commencement begins at 7 p.m. at Liberty University's Vines Center. CVCC expects to graduate 1,009 students and confer 1,390 associate's degrees, diplomas, certificates and other credentials, the college said in a news release.

CVCC said Tweedy is a former student, having attended classes beginning in 1990. Tweedy called the school "the start of my educational career" and noted her daughter, Kouri, recently earned her clinical medical assistant credential there.
