45,000 pounds of potatoes just arrived at Gleaning For The World – that’s an entire tractor trailer filled with potatoes which will be distributed to local organizations in central Virginia working to meet the increase in  food needs of individuals and families.

“Food insecurity is real, even now more than ever,” Jeane Smiley-Mason, Gleaning’s president said. “The community outpouring to take care of our neighbors during these unprecedented times has been incredible and it is our hope that these potatoes will be a blessing to families and individuals all over the region.”

Gleaning For The World representatives have been calling area food pantries, shelters, churches, and other non-profits to provide these potatoes at no cost.

“Working with our partners at Society of St. Andrew, we were able to secure this truckload of potatoes with the goal of distributing them to anyone who needs a hand up right now,” Smiley-Mason added.

More than 15 organizations are scheduled to pick up the potatoes at Gleaning For The World’s warehouse in Concord, Virginia, next week, and will distribute among locals in their communities.
