JULY 12, 2019 | CONCORD, VA Gleaning For The World is responding to Tropical Storm Barry located in the Gulf Coast. After several days of threatening Louisiana and Texas residents, this slow-moving storm is due to make landfall within the next 24 hours. Louisiana has declared a state of emergency; evacuations have been ordered, and only time will tell just exactly where Barry will hit.

Today, July 12, 2019 the Disaster Relief Team at Gleaning For The World met to finalize details in their response to Barry which includes hosting a Disaster Relief Supply Collection at Sam’s Club on Wards Road in Lynchburg, Virginia next week.

“Residents of Lynchburg and surrounding areas who donate to our disaster relief efforts play a vital role in providing help and hope to those facing devastation,” Jeane Smiley-Mason, President of Gleaning For The World, said.

“Knowing that another person in another state cares enough about you to buy a case of bottled water or pack of baby diapers, for example, makes a huge difference. That simple act lets someone know, in a very tangible way, that during a crisis, others care about you; and that leaves a long-lasting impression. Together, we’re meeting emotional needs along with delivering physical supplies.”

Collection dates include Monday, July 15 from noon to 6pm; Tuesday, July 16 from 10am to 6pm; and Wednesday, July 17 from 10am to 6pm.

Gleaning’s staff and volunteers hosting the collection will provide a list of needed items with an emphasis on the following: personal hygiene products, baby items, nonperishable foods (and snacks), and cleaning supplies.

Financial donations can be made at the collection site at Sam’s club, online at https://gftw.org/barry or by mailing a check to Gleaning For The World, PO Box 645 Concord, VA 24538. Together, we can make a difference!
