Gleaning to Distribute Foods and Toys in Brookneal, VA
This Saturday, September 12, Gleaning For The World will distribute frozen foods, fresh produce, loaves of bread, and personal hygiene products to residents of Brookneal, Virginia. The organization will even be giving out new toys for children that day as part of their second ‘Big Community Give,’ which will be held, in partnership with Brookneal Emergency Assistance Ministry (B.E.A.M.) from 10am until 2pm at Green Spring Baptist Church.
All Brookneal residents in need of these items are welcome to drive through the parking lot of Green Spring Baptist Church this Saturday to receive free frozen foods, as well as toys for the children.
“As a response to the financial suffering many people have experienced due to COVID-19, Gleaning For The World has really focused, mainly, on helping our neighbors right here in Central Virginia,” Jeane Smiley-Mason, Gleaning’s president, said. “Of course, we are still continuing our international work as well as our disaster relief efforts, but we’ve focused on helping folks here at home more than anything else this year.”
Gleaning For The World is participating as a distributor of foods through the USDA program called Farmers to Families. Gleaning does not receive any financial support for distributing these foods. If you are interested in helping provide support for Gleaning as they distribute nutritious foods (and more) into local communities, please visit GFTW.org/Virginia to make a financial contribution towards these local efforts.
