Third grade students at James River Day School wrapped themselves in blankets and sleeping bags to get comfortable for at least four hours of reading Friday evening. About 19 third-graders participated in the school’s annual Read-a-Thon, which served as a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Visitors could hear page after page turning as the students — some dressed in pajamas or onesies — read their books. The fundraiser ran Dec. 17 through Friday although people can continue to donate throughout next week. The school has raised $3,389 so far, exceeding its goal by more than $1,000.
