When Heritage High School math teacher Andrew Napierkowski walked into his classroom Wednesday morning, he didn’t know he would get a visit from Lynchburg City Schools Superintendent Crystal Edwards.

Napierkowski thought for a few minutes he was being observed until his wife, Bonnie, and his two daughters, Allie, 5, and Ivy, 2, walked into the classroom.

In front of his family, students and a group of LCS and Heritage administrators, faculty and staff, Edwards announced Napierkowski as the division’s 2019 Teacher of the Year.
