N&A earns more than a dozen top honors from Virginia Press Association for 2018 work

The News & Advance earned nearly three dozen awards Saturday night from the Virginia Press Association for work published in 2018.

The newspaper earned 27 awards for news coverage, and six advertising awards.  Altogether, the N&A took home 14 first-place honors, including a first in breaking news awarded to the staff for its coverage of the April 15, 2018 tornado. The N&A also earned first-place awards for business writing, education writing, feature writing, photography and video, among other awards.

The paper’s signature magazine, Discover Central Virginia, also won a top award, as did the N&A’s special keepsake section on the tornado and its aftermath.



Overall, 26 staffers won awards.
