The City of Lynchburg Office of Economic Development and Tourism is pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa Meriwether, Tourism Sales Manager, as President of the Board of Directors of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Virginia Chapter effective July 1, 2020.
Lisa was installed as the Chapter President on June 30, 2020 and will serve on the Board’s Executive Committee.  She will be responsible for working with the Office of the President on Chapter business plans, budget, chapter operations and board succession planning.
This is Lisa’s sixth appointment to this board in her more than thirty years in the hospitality and sales industry, including her current position selling the City of Lynchburg as the destination for meetings, conventions, citywide and sporting events and leisure travel.  Previous travel industry related board involvement includes serving as President of the Virginia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (now Virginia Association of Destination Marketing Organizations) and on committees for the Virginia Tourism Corporation and Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association.
“I am very excited to welcome Lisa to the office of Chapter President for the MPI Virginia Chapter,” said Belinda Cottrell, CPCE, CHS, Operations Manager of Meeting Professionals International Virginia Chapter.  “Lisa brings many years of chapter service in key areas such as education and membership.  Her counsel and expertise brings energy to the board and strengthens the MPI mission to provide MPI members, chapters and the global meeting and event community with innovative and relevant education, networking opportunities and business exchanges, and to act as a prominent voice for the promotion and growth of the industry.  Lisa is highly dedicated and continually demonstrates strong leadership even in the midst of an unprecedented time for our industry.”
