A Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) is a regional plan developed by business, government and non-profit stakeholders that provides a collaborative and unified strategy for regional economic development. Not only will this plan guide our organizational strategy for the next five years, but it will be critical in obtaining the federal funding assistance necessary for regional projects, such as roadways, industrial sites and workforce programs.

The Lynchburg Regional CEDS is comprised of five goals and eleven initiatives that focuses on marketing, industrial recruitment, entrepreneurship, workforce development, transportation, rivers and communities, and arts and culture. All these elements are critical to a thriving economy that will add jobs and investment to our region. For the past 12 months, regional initiative councils have been meeting to develop implementation plans for their focus areas. On March 1, the individual councils presented their plans for implementation to the steering committee, showcasing creative and collaborative ways to execute the goals set forth in the CEDS.

Looking ahead, the CEDS steering committee will finalize the implementation plans for submission on May 31. Following approval, we will begin executing the plans to move our region forward. An online dashboard will be available to observe regional progress and copies of the regional CEDS is available online at www.lynchburgregion.org or www.localgovernmentcouncil.org.

Our municipal partners in the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Campbell, Bedford; the Towns of Amherst and Altavista; the City of Lynchburg; and the private sector have made CEDS a priority. It will be the driving force behind our regional collaboration and economic growth. It is only together that we will succeed.
