Upcoming Primary Election Information (Primary Election is June 8)

For City of Lynchburg residents who wish to vote in the Lynchburg City Democratic Primary or Republican Primary House of Delegates District 22 on June 8, 2021

The Commonwealth of Virginia and THE City of Lynchburg will hold primary elections on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Any voter in the City may vote in the statewide Democratic primary, and any voters in House of Delegates District 22 may vote in the Republican primary for that district, but voters may vote in only one primary. 

Voters have four options to vote in these elections. The Commonwealth and the City Registrar’s Office encourage voters to protect their health during the COVID-19 outbreak.

1. Apply online or request an application to vote by mail
The deadline to apply for a vote by mail ballot is Friday, May 28, 2021.

After applying, you can check to see if your absentee application was received, and whether your ballot was sent and received by going to the Citizen Portal here.

2. Early voting in-person
In-person early voting will begin at the Registrar’s Office on Friday, April 23 and will continue through Friday, June 4.  For your convenience, the Registrar’s Office will be open on Saturday, May 29 and June 5 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  To vote early in-person do the following:

•    You do not have to have a reason or fill out an application to vote early.
•    At the Registrar’s Office, you must provide your name and address and show an acceptable form of ID or sign an ID Confirmation Statement. 
•    Accessible equipment and/or curbside voting is available upon request.

3. Ballot dropboxes 
Completed ballots may be dropped off in a secure box at the Registrar’s Office. The dropbox will be available the same dates, times as the early voting hours above. Our staff will come to voters curbside for voters to drop-off their ballot in the secure box.  In addition, secure drop-boxes staffed by election officials will be available at each precinct on Election Day.  

4. Voting in person on June 8
All precincts will be open for in-person voting on Primary Election Day on Tuesday, June 8 from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  
If you have not yet registered to vote in Lynchburg or need to make changes to your name and/or address on our records, you must file a voter registration application by Monday May 17, 2021.
