Arelia Langhorne
Arelia Langhorne is a retired attorney. She practiced law for 36 years during which time she also served many organizations in the Lynchburg community In retirement she has been a named plaintiff in two gerrymander law suits and has served a term as President of the board of directors of Lynchburg Covenant Fellowship, Inc., an organization focused on providing housing to the marginal and disabled among us and the League of Women Voters of Lynchburg, supporting voting rights for all citizens.
She is a graduate of Valparaiso University and the University of Virginia School of Law.
On February 23, 2019 Arelia received an Outstanding Community Recognition Award from Jubilee Family Development Center 20th Anniversary 1999-2019 for a Lifetime of Committed and Loyal Service to Civil Rights and the Greater Lynchburg Community.
Arelia says her goal now is to manage her stress and keep family first. Arelia is married to Lynchburg native, Howard R. Langhorne, and they have two grown daughters, Valerie and Teresa. She is the proud grandmother of Micah, and Steve, Jr. Micah who attends North Carolina A&T State University, in Greensboro, an H.B.C.U.
Nathan Bryant Handy
Nathan Bryant Handy started his career as an employee at E. D. Bell & Co., a branch of Jones Watts Hardware Co., and was associated with W.P. Clark Hardware firm. Mr. Handy also worked with Virginia Nail and Iron Works and engaged in publishing at The Lynchburg Progress, which was absorbed by The News and The Daily Advance.
Nathan Bryant Handy started and became President of N.B. Handy Co. on April 1, 1891, specializing in steel roofing, copper, solder, and accessories delivered to customers by horse and wagon. After 38 years, Mr. Handy built the 65 10th Street building to house the firm. After the boom succeeding World War II, the company added heating and air conditioning services. Nathan Bryant Handy later retired and NB Handy was placed under the stewardship of his grandson, James Christian, Jr. The company went into its fourth generation of family ownership.
Today, N.B. Handy has grown to 16 locations from Maryland to Florida and has become a leading distributor of Metals, HVAC, Commercial Roofing, and Machinery Products.
