Author David P. Colley will join the Memorial to discuss his widely acclaimed book Road to Victory which highlights the Red Ball Express, one of World War II's largest logistics operations manned primarily by African-American soldiers. The Red Ball Express transported 12,500 tons of ammunition, food, and fuel each day from August 25, 1944 through November 16, 1944 often while being strafed by the German Luftwaffe or in the line of enemy fire. Without the efforts of the Red Ball Express, it would have been impossible for American troops to push the Germans out of France and into Berlin. The lecture will be held at the Bedford Welcome Center. Free admission though donations are appreciated.
