Runner/Walker Personal Safety Workshop: A Free Community event sponsored by the Virginia 10 Miler AREVA S.A.F.E. Strides Program LYNCHBURG, Va., September 21, 2013 In preparation for the Genworth Virginia 10 Miler race, AREVA and the Virginia 10 Miler are partnering with the Lynchburg Police Department's Crime Prevention unit and the International Karate Academy to host a walk and run safety awareness workshop that is free and open to the public. The workshop, part of AREVA's S.A.F.E. Strides 10-week training program, will provide the tools and information runners need to finish the Virginia 10 Miler the way they began – safe and injury free. The workshop will be held on Saturday, September 21, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at International Karate Academy located in the Forest Hills Shopping Center, 2820 Suite B, Linkhorne Drive, Lynchburg, Va. • The workshop will include runner and walker safety awareness tips and response techniques from Cindy Kozerow of the Lynchburg Crime Prevention Unit. • John Goode and Lysa Slay, ACMA-certified martial arts instructors from International Karate Academy, will lead an interactive, self-defense workshop that will teach personal safety techniques to the audience.
