Lynchburg Salvation Army Requests Help in Preparation for Hurricane Matthew
The Salvation Army of Lynchburg is seeking help from the community in providing supplies to areas who are at high risk of suffering the effects of Hurricane Matthew. As of 11 am on Tues., Oct 4, Hurricane Matthew was listed as a category four hurricane with sustained winds of 145 miles an hour with a 60 mile reach. Current weather estimates are for Matthew to continue to remain a powerful hurricane through at least Wednesday.
A supply drive will take place at Sam’s Club located at 3912 Wards Rd in Lynchburg VA on Thurs., Oct. 6 from 9 am to 6 pm and on Mon., Oct. 10 from 9 am to 6 pm. The Salvation Army of Lynchburg is asking the community to donate water, paper products, #10 cans of food, breakfast items, coffee, cleaning supplies and other supplies of need. Items can be dropped off at the Salvation Army disaster truck located in the Sam’s parking lot during the supply drive.
The Salvation Army began offering assistance to disaster survivors in the year 1900 in the aftermath of the Galveston, TX hurricane. Since then, The Salvation Army has responded to numerous natural disasters, transportation accidents, civil unrest situations and terrorist attacks. By providing beverages, meals, and emotional and spiritual care to first responders and survivors, The Salvation Army strives to bring hope and healing to people who find themselves in the midst of extremely difficult situations.
