About Us

Virginia Amateur Sports Inc. (VAS) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization based in Roanoke, founded in 1989, but starting in 2016 Lynchburg will be hosting the Virginia Commonwealth Games at Liberty University. VAS is governed by a board of directors made up of 18 members from localities across the state. In 2023 we added the Able Games as part of the VA Commonwealth Games, offering sports to athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities.

The VAS mission statement is: To promote awareness and benefits of physical fitness and healthy lifestyles through sports education, training & competition.
VAS directs multiple events throughout the year, including the Virginia Commonwealth Games - the largest multi-sport festival held in Virginia each year - the Smith Mountain Lake Triathlon, Star City Half Marathon & 10K, and others.
