About Us

For almost 110 years, YWCA Central Virginia has been serving the women, children, and families of Central Virginia. Founded in 1912, YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, and dignity for all. YWCA Central VA works to ensure that victims become survivors, trauma is treated, and housing for women remains attainable and safe. Your YWCA will continue to get up and do the work until injustice is rooted out, until institutions are transformed, until the world sees women, girls, and people of color the way we do: Equal. Powerful. Unstoppable.

YWCA Central Virginia achieves this with its two flagship victim services programs: Domestic Violence Prevention Program (DVPP) and the Sexual Assault Response Program (SARP). Further, YWCA Central Virginia has worked to provide safe and secure housing for women with its third flagship program – Town Center Residential Housing Program. We engage young men and boys to break the cycle of violence against women through our Amend Together program and work to eliminate racism by providing our annual Side by Side Walk and 21 Day Racial Equity & Social Justice Challenge.

YWCA USA is one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the nation, serving over 2 million women, girls, and their families. YWCA has been at the forefront of the most pressing social movements for more than 160 years — from voting rights to civil rights, from affordable housing to pay equity, from violence prevention to health care reform. YWCA Central Virginia is proud to be part of such a powerful network.
