Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Executive Director
YWCA Central Virginia seeks an experienced, mission-driven, and transformational Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Executive
Director to lead the organization into its next chapter. This is a unique opportunity for a leader who can build upon the YWCA's
strong mission and dedicated staff while strengthening organizational culture, financial sustainability, grant compliance,
community partnerships, and long-term strategic direction. The CEO/Executive Director will serve as the organization's chief
executive and primary ambassador, working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, funders, community
partners, and the individuals and families served by YWCA Central Virginia.
About YWCA
For over 100 years, YWCA Central Virginia has served women, children, and families of Central Virginia. Founded in 1912 by a
dedicated group of women, who had incidentally been told that creating an organization for women and by women was
unsustainable, YWCA Central Virginia has grown and adapted to meet the varying needs of the communities we serve.
YWCA Central Virginia serves seven counties and one city, an area of 4,400 square miles with a population of over 400,000
community members. Domestic Violence Prevention, Sexual Assault Response, Supervised Visitation, and Town Center Women’s
Residential Housing are our key direct service programs.
Key Responsibilities
o Develop and execute strategic goals in collaboration with the Board of Directors and ensure alignment with the
organization's mission.
o Lead the day-to-day operations of the organization, including programs, finance, human resources, facilities,
communications, and compliance.
o Build and maintain a high-performing leadership team with clear roles, expectations, and accountability.
o Model and reinforce a culture of integrity, respect, collaboration, professionalism, and mission-driven performance.
o Provide timely and accurate reports to the Board regarding programs, operations, financial health, risks, and strategic
priorities.
o Support Board recruitment, orientation, development, engagement, and evaluation.
o Partner with Finance and the Board Treasurer to develop and manage the annual budget and maintain strong financial
controls.
o Develop strategies to strengthen financial sustainability and diversify funding.
o Lead a proactive fundraising strategy involving foundations, corporations, government funding, and individual donors.
o Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, grant, contractual, and organizational requirements.
o Oversee grant compliance, including budgets, reporting, deliverables, performance measures, documentation,
monitoring, and audits.
o Collaborate with program and finance staff to identify funding opportunities and develop competitive grant proposals.
o Evaluate the viability, sustainability, and financial feasibility of programs and new initiatives.
o Ensure programs are accessible, effective, mission-aligned, and responsive to community needs.
o Identify and address organizational training and professional development needs.
o Serve as the primary spokesperson for YWCA Central Virginia with media, government entities, funders, community
partners, and the public.
o Build strategic relationships with community leaders, businesses, healthcare organizations, government agencies,
nonprofits, and other partners.
o Advocate for social justice, racial equity, women's empowerment, and issues affecting the communities served.
o Ensure appropriate risk management, legal compliance, policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Required Experience and Qualifications
o Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
o An understanding of and commitment to the mission of YWCA Central Virginia to empower women, eliminate racism, and
promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
o Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, accountability, and commitment to mission-driven leadership.
o Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and public communication skills.
o Impeccable professionalism when working with employees, volunteers, clients, the Board of Directors, community
partners, funders, stakeholders, and the public.

o Ability to adapt to changing organizational and community needs while maintaining focus on strategic priorities and the
YWCA mission.
Preferred Qualifications
o Significant progressive leadership experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
o Experience with domestic violence, sexual assault, victim services, or other human-services organizations.
o Demonstrated success in strategic planning and organizational development.
o Demonstrated ability to lead with financial and organizational stewardship, including understanding nonprofit financial
management, grant compliance, resource development, and long-term organizational sustainability.
o Experience managing government and foundation funded programs, including oversight of grant compliance, budgets,
reporting, performance measures, and monitoring requirements.
o Demonstrated experience leading an organization through cultural or organizational transformation.
o Experience working with a Board of Directors, developing Board leadership and engagement.
o Strong communication and community relationship-building skills.
Salary Range and Benefits
o The starting salary for this position is $85,000 annually. The final salary offer will be determined based on the selected
candidate’s demonstrated experience and leadership capabilities.
o This position is eligible for benefits including the opportunity to buy into group health insurance (medical, dental,
vision), provided life insurance and short-term disability, and the opportunity after two years to join YWCA USA
Retirement Program.
