About this opportunity:
The Case Worker provides social service assistance and case management to eligible clients in the following areas: food, lodging, clothing, furniture, and financial assistance; interviews clients to determine need and eligibility to receive services; prepares accurate and complete client records; refers clients to community agencies and maintains effective working relationships with the same; ensures compliance with program policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities:
· Greets and interviews clients requesting assistance to determine client’s eligibility for assistance based on program guidelines and restrictions. Records clients disposition and other pertinent information such as income, expenses, family, and work history. Assists clients in completing application for assistance. Photocopies picture identification cards, payroll statements, utility bills, etc.
· Reviews, monitors, and implements program policy. Administers program in compliance with budget constraints.
· Review case assessments for each client including a personalized action plan; reviews case files to ensure proper documentation for all case activities.
· Provides clients with food from pantry; keeps inventory of food given and needed to replenish.
· Locate and arrange temporary housing for eligible client; contact local shelters, homeless shelters, motels, churches etc. for lodging. Process rent and utility financial assistance for eligible clients; contact utility organizations and landlords to arrange and process financial assistance.
· Take applications for EFSP and other funds when applicable.
· Client centered responsibilities include assessment, referrals, and linking client to other needed resources.
· Coordinates and assists with seasonal services, special events, and manages volunteers.
What we are looking for in you:
· Bachelor’s degree accredited college or university in Social Work, Behavioral Science, or a related field.
· Two years experience performing progressively responsible social service case management work.
· Or three years experience in related field. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Ability to type and keypunch information into a computer. Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to work on multiple cases effectively and efficiently at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, computer and adding machine. Duties are usually performed seated. Occasional amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) and occasional lifting of objects (25 to 50 pounds) may be necessary. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work may require driving a vehicle where there may be discomforts associated with heavy traffic or changes in weather.
