Lunchbox Lecture- "Wehrmacht Invasion of the Mountains of Virginia"
John D. Long, Education Director for the National D-Day Memorial, will present a talk on “The Wehrmacht Invasion of the Mountains of Virginia.” Though little remembered today, communities in Virginia became home to thousands of German (and Italian) prisoners of war, part of a program to alleviate labor shortages in rural areas. The program has been called one of the great untold success stories of the American war effort, and helped to pave the path of reconciliation between former enemies when the guns fell silent. Guests are welcome to bring their lunch. Free admission though donations are appreciated will help support future educational programming.
