THE ARTS COLLIDE DURING LSO CONCERT
The Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra is bringing its concert season to a close with a grand finale involving music, visual art, and local schools. The full orchestra concert, Young Artists at an Exhibition, is a collaboration between New Vistas School, T.C. Miller Elementary School for Innovation, and the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. Area school children have spent the last several months creating artwork that reflects their interpretations of the concert’s music – particularly Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgksy. Dr.Christopher Swanson, Conductor of the LSO says,
Our goal has been to create a venue for young artists in our community to display their work and to create a link between music and visual art. This concert will focus on the talent of brilliant young artists in our community featuring original art by students at the New Vistas School and T.C. Miller Elementary School for Innovation and breath-taking music by Mozart, Elgar and Mussorgsky. As the musicians of the orchestra play, artwork by the young artists will be displayed on large screen above the stage. Come share this special event with us, it will be a multimedia event not to be missed!
“It is so wonderful to be able to integrate classical music and the visual arts through in this performance. It is a known fact that early exposure to classical music helps young children learn and respond to all types of music with a greater degree of understanding and sensitivity.” says Margie Callahan, President of the LSO Board of Directors. She adds, “I want to thank the Faculty and Staff of T. C. Miller Elementary School for Innovation and New Vistas School for participating in this special concert. And a special thank you to each of our participating artists and their families. “
