Miriam’s House in Lynchburg is seeking to fill a full-time Housing Case Manager position to join its team of exceptional professionals. Miriam’s House is a growing nonprofit committed to ending homelessness in Central Virginia. The workplace culture at Miriam’s House is fast-paced, collaborative, and solutions-focused.
 
This position will work within the rapid re-housing program, Community First, to provide direct service to homeless families with children. Services focus on assisting the household with maintaining permanent housing through connections to employment opportunities, education and access to benefit enrollment. The Housing Case Manager provides home-based case management to formerly homeless families living in private rental housing scattered throughout the community. Case management is aimed at ensuring housing stability by providing wraparound services, tenancy supports and referrals to benefits and community resources.
 
The position requires creative problem-solving and excellent advocacy skills to liaise between clients and a variety of systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and efficiently. Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to work with diverse and highly vulnerable populations. Ideally this applicant will have a strong knowledge of the Housing First model, an awareness of mainstream benefits and supports in the community and the ability to assertively serve those in need.  The candidate must have reliable transportation as services primarily take place in a community setting.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field
  • Two years’ experience providing case management services
  • Experience working with homeless population, preferred
  • Previous home based case management experience preferred
  • Experience in mental health and substance abuse services strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of housing market and landlord expectations
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
 

This is a full-time, 40 hour-per-week (9am – 5pm) salaried position. The starting salary range for this position is $41,367 - $44,676 depending on experience and includes highly-competitive benefits including health insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, pension, paid family leave, life insurance, and both long term and short term disability insurance.
