BRENT WATTS RETIRES - WDBJ7 NAMES NEW CHIEF METEOROLOGIST
ROANOKE, Va. (Aug. 25, 2025) After decades of guiding viewers through sunshine and storms, Chief Meteorologist Brent Watts is signing off from Your Hometown Station.
Reflecting on his time at WDBJ7, Brent shared, “After years of tracking storms and late nights in the Robin Reed Weather Center, I’m looking forward to something I haven’t forecasted in a while - dinner at home with my wife. It’s been a privilege to serve this community, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
Brent’s trusted forecasts have been a source of comfort and clarity for generations. He will continue to do so as the Director of Communications for Botetourt County, bringing his deep connection to the region into a new role of service.
“It is rare to be able to bring someone home who has given so much to the region over their illustrious career, and for that person to be as energized as Brent Watts is, Botetourt will be a better-informed community with his professional skills and dedication,” said Gary Larrowe, Botetourt County Administrator.
With Brent’s departure, WDBJ7 is proud to announce Justin Povick as the new Chief Meteorologist for the First Alert Hometown Weather Team. Justin brings more than two decades of experience, a calm and reassuring presence, and a deep commitment to keeping viewers safe. He holds the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation from the American Meteorological Society and is known for his accurate, no-nonsense forecasting style.
“Justin is exactly the right person to lead the First Alert Hometown Weather team,” said Matt Pumo, Regional Vice President and General Manager. “We have an extraordinary team of meteorologists here, and Justin’s expertise will continue the longstanding tradition of market-leading weather coverage”.
News Director Brent BonFleur echoed, “There is no one better than Justin Povick to lead First Alert Hometown Weather. We are thrilled to promote Justin as the Chief Meteorologist.”
As Brent Watts passes the baton, WDBJ7 celebrates his legacy and looks forward to a bright future under Justin’s leadership. Justin begins his new duties in late September.
