Centra Rehabilitation Hospital celebrates grand opening of new hospital on the
Simons Run Medical Campus
LYNCHBURG, Va. (July 9, 2026) – Centra and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, an operating
division of Lifepoint Health, joined community leaders for a celebratory ribbon cutting to
mark the grand opening of Centra Rehabilitation Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia. The
hospital is one of two specialty facilities opening on the Simons Run Medical Campus.
The joint venture between the two organizations was announced in 2022.
“Today marks an exciting milestone for Centra as we complete construction of the
Simons Run Medical Campus and celebrate the ribbon cutting of Centra Rehabilitation
Hospital,” said Richard Tugman, president and CEO of Centra. “Years of planning have
made it possible to bring advanced rehabilitation services to our community, creating a
place for both physical recovery and renewed hope for a healthy, productive life.”
With 50 beds and more than 60,000 square feet, the new rehabilitation hospital expands
Centra’s current rehabilitation capacity by 150%. The facility creates a therapeutic
environment for patients with open, airy spaces and all-private rooms, and it’s outfitted
with leading-edge amenities and adaptive units, including a 12-bed brain injury unit,
multidisciplinary therapy gymnasiums, a specialized “activities of daily living” suite, and
outdoor courtyards that promote patient movement and activity.

Centra Rehabilitation Hospital is supported by a team of expert rehabilitation
professionals who provide care for adults who have experienced a loss of function or
disability due to stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, orthopedic
surgery, amputation and other conditions. Physical medicine and rehabilitation
physicians and highly skilled nurses and therapists provide physical, occupational and
speech therapies among other services.
Lifepoint Rehabilitation is dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality rehabilitation care
that is industry-leading in clinical outcomes. The organization will manage the day-today operations of the rehabilitation hospital, which joins its network of more than 50
free-standing rehabilitation hospitals nationwide.

Located at 1159 Simons Run, Centra Rehabilitation Hospital is part of the Centra
Simons Run Medical Campus. Last month, the first hospital on the campus, the Centra
Behavioral Health Hospital, opened its doors to patients. Both projects are integral to
