City of Lynchburg Prepares for Winter Weather, Municipal Offices Closed Tuesday, February

The City of Lynchburg is anticipating snow and a heavy wintery mix beginning early Tuesday morning, February 11 and continuing through Wednesday afternoon, February 12 with snow and sleet accumulations between two and four inches and up to one-half inch of ice. The Department of Public Works is prepared to respond with spreader and plowing operations conducted as needed.

City of Lynchburg municipal offices will be closed on Tuesday, February 11.

The public is encouraged to avoid travel if at all possible and use extreme caution if travel is necessary. Slow down, take extra time and watch out for spreader trucks. Please only call 911 in case of an emergency.

PUBLIC WORKS

The Department of Public Works is prepared for this event and will have crews working 12-hour shifts with spreader and plow operations conducted as needed.

As always, priority will be placed on primary and secondary roads with plowing of residential streets conducted only if two inches or more of snow accumulation occurs. Based on the forecast of more than two inches of snow, it is anticipated that residential streets will be plowed.

Abandoned vehicles found parked on roadways during plowing operations will be towed per Lynchburg Police Department.

Trash collection for Tuesday, February 11 will be picked up following the normal schedule. If snow becomes too heavy and plowing operations begin, Tuesday's trash will be picked up Friday, February 14.

PARKING

Please limit parking in the street. Many Lynchburg streets are very narrow, and vehicles parked on both sides of an already narrow street leave little room for plows and slows down clearing of streets. If you have a driveway, please use it or coordinate with neighbors to voluntarily park on one side of the street.

To help facilitate more effective clearing of streets, downtown residents may park in City parking decks and lots beginning tonight, Monday, February 10 after 5:00 p.m. through Wednesday morning, February 13 at 8:00 a.m. During this time, regular parking enforcement operations will be suspended.
