CVACL Announces “Navigating Dementia: Empowerment and Connection” Workshop

Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living Announces “Navigating Dementia: Empowerment and Connection” Workshop, Funded by Genworth Foundation

Lynchburg, Virginia, March 26, 2025 — Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living, Inc. (CVACL) is excited to announce the launch of its new six-week workshop, Navigating Dementia: Empowerment and Connection, designed for individuals in the early stages of dementia and their caregivers, providing participants with knowledge, resources, and emotional support as they navigate the disease.

The workshop series will begin on April 15, 2025, and will meet on Tuesday evenings via Zoom from 5:30-7:00 p.m. for six weeks. Building off the Dementia Self-Management Guidebook from the University of Nevada’s DEER (Dementia Empowerment Education and Resources) program, the workshop helps participants develop skills to manage symptoms and improve daily living, while also offering a supportive environment where caregivers and individuals can share experiences. During each session, participants will receive expert-led education on various aspects of dementia care, engage in peer discussions, and gain practical strategies that improve quality of life for both individuals living with dementia and their families.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the Genworth Foundation for their support of this important initiative,” said Deborah Silverman, Executive Director of CVACL. “Their funding allows us to offer this program, which empowers participants to take an active role in managing dementia while fostering a sense of connection and community.”
