LYNCHBURG MUSEUM PRESENTS “STUDIO ‘76: 70’S NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: LYNCHBURG MUSEUM PRESENTS “STUDIO ‘76: 70’S NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM”

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lynchburg Museum System in ‘70s style! On Friday, March 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Lynchburg Museum & Visitor Center will host a special ‘70s themed event. “Studio ‘76” will feature music by DJ MadLad, period mocktails, a photo booth, and a few surprises! Attendees are encouraged to dress in their 70’s best and compete in a costume contest with cash prizes. The event is open to the general public, and admission is $5 per person. Tickets can be purchased at LynchburgMuseum.org/calendar or at the door. Free parking is available on Court Street and in the Clay Street Parking Deck behind the museum.

During the Studio ‘76 event, the entire museum will be open, including its newest exhibit “Lynchburg & The Vietnam War” in the Gifford Gallery. The exhibit explores local connections to the war in southeast Asia and highlights the 27 men from Lynchburg who lost their lives in the conflict. Several items from local POW David Harker’s five-year captivity are also on display.

“Studio ‘76” celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Lynchburg Museum System. The Museum System was established by City Council in 1976 to preserve local history and tell Lynchburg’s remarkable story. Today it remains the City’s only official museum of history and culture, responsible for the Old Court House on Court Street, Point of Honor in Daniel’s Hill, and over 100,000 artifacts. Visit LynchburgMuseum.org for open days and hours, as well as other anniversary events, programs, and celebrations throughout the year.

About the Lynchburg Museum System

The Lynchburg Museum System manages the official history museums and archives of the City of Lynchburg. Its mission is to collect, interpret, preserve, and share the history and culture of Lynchburg, Virginia, and the surrounding area. The Museum System is a division of the City’s Office of Economic Development & Tourism, working in partnership with the non-profit Lynchburg Museum Foundation.

The Museum System is responsible for operating two museums: the Lynchburg Museum in the Old Court House at the top of Monument Terrace and Point of Honor, the former plantation site on Daniel’s Hill. These museums preserve nearly 100,000 artifacts and share the diverse stories of three centuries of local history with residents, tourists, and students of all ages.
