YMCA of Central Virginia Hosts Free Swim Lessons Open House Events
LYNCHBURG, VA — The YMCA of Central Virginia invites families to dive into water safety, fun, and swim readiness at two upcoming Swim Lessons Open House events — one at the Downtown YMCA and one at the Jamerson Family YMCA. These events are designed to help families find the right swim lesson level for their child, learn about water safety, and explore all that YMCA aquatics has to offer.
Both events will feature free swim evaluations to help families find the right lesson level for their child, life jacket fittings to promote water safety, open swim time for the whole family, and chances to win swim lesson scholarships and other fun giveaways. This event is open for members and non-members.

Why It Matters:
Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury death for children ages 1–4 and the second leading cause for kids ages 5–14. It happens quickly, quietly, and often when no one expects it. These Swim Lesson Open House events aren’t just fun afternoons at the Y — they’re potentially lifesaving. By helping children build confidence in the water, providing essential safety education, and equipping caregivers with the tools they need, we can work together to prevent future tragedies.
