Miss Volunteer America and Amtrak Partner with The Salvation Army for Holiday Cheer Across Virginia

Lynchburg, VA – December 16, 2024 – The Miss Volunteer America Organization, Miss Virginia Volunteer Organization, Amtrak, and The Salvation Army are joining forces for a holiday initiative that unites communities across Virginia. This festive collaboration combines The Salvation Army's signature holiday programs, including Angel Tree and the Red Kettle Campaign, with a celebratory tour along Amtrak's Virginia route to spread Christmas cheer and highlight the power of giving and community connection.

As part of this initiative, the partnership will bring the joy of the Christmas season to Lynchburg:
  • December 18: Miss Virginia Volunteer, Haleigh Hurst, along with Miss Spirit of Virginia, Jeanie, and Miss Volunteer America, Berkley Bryant, will join The Salvation Army for the Hope Community Feeding from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
  • December 19: Haleigh Hurst will ring the iconic Red Kettle Bell at Boonsboro Kroger from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, inspiring generosity and support for The Salvation Army’s year-round programs.
  • December 20: Miss Virginia Volunteer and Miss Spirit of Virginia will assist with the Angel Tree Distribution from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, helping to bring joy to local families in need.
This unique partnership emphasizes the importance of community and compassion during the holiday season. The Angel Train Express, a celebratory journey along Amtrak's route, further enhances the spirit of the season by showcasing how collective efforts can make a lasting impact on individuals and families across the state.

“We are honored to collaborate with such incredible partners to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors,” said Miki McGarry, Development Director of The Salvation Army of Lynchburg. “This initiative reflects the heart of the Christmas season—spreading joy, kindness, and hope to those who need it most.”
